About Counselling

Why have counselling?

Extra support
There is a time to give and a time to receive support. In counselling clients have time to receive care and attention which is therapeutic, focused and tailored to meet their individual needs.
Counselling can help people to feel more able to cope. In the professional counselling relationship clients can talk in confidence with a professional, impartial and independent practitioner.

Personal development
Counselling may provide a person with the space they need for self-development. I have also trained in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy using the EAGALA Model, this means counselling sessions with clients can take place outdoors, or in the field with horses, using the horses and surrounding area to work therapeutically using metaphor. Sessions are tailored to the needs of individuals; please contact me if you wish to explore this way of working together.

Health and well-being
A person's health and sense of wellbeing may be affected by symptoms arising from stress, anxiety or depression; their doctors might prescribe medication. Talking therapy can be helpful in addition to prescribed medical treatment.

What is a counselling session?
If you contact me by telephone or email we can hope to arrange an initial appointment at a convenient time for you. The appointment can be for talking in a telephone session, or a video session if you prefer, or OUTDOORS talking face to face at a distance of 2 metres.

For outdoor sessions at my property, observing the current government guidelines for preventing the spread of coronavirus, the chairs are at least 2m apart, under a roof canopy, observing social distance at all times. Each client will have a fresh chair that has been in storage for at least 72 hours. Payment can be by contactless card-reader, or bank transfer, and there is no exchange of paperwork.

Daytime or early evening appointments are available. The first session provides an opportunity to discuss whether counselling would be helpful for you or what is the best next step for you. Short-term or long-term counselling may be offered. Counselling sessions usually last up to 50 minutes and clients are asked to arrive promptly as I do not have a waiting room.

More generally information about counselling can be found on the website of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
