About Counselling

Why have counselling?

Extra support
There is a time to give and a time to receive support. In counselling clients have time to receive care and attention which is therapeutic, focused and tailored to meet their individual needs.
Counselling can help people to feel more able to cope. In the professional counselling relationship clients can talk in confidence with a professional, impartial and independent practitioner.

Personal development
Counselling may provide a person with the space they need for self-development.

Health and well-being
A person's health and sense of wellbeing may be affected by symptoms arising from stress, anxiety or depression; their doctors might prescribe medication. Talking therapy can be helpful in addition to prescribed medical treatment.

What is a counselling session?
If you contact me we can hope to arrange an initial appointment at a convenient time for you. Daytime or early evening appointments are available. The first session provides an opportunity to discuss whether counselling would be helpful for you or what is the best next step for you. Short-term or long-term counselling may be offered.

Counselling sessions last up to 50 minutes and take place in my private consulting room which has comfortable chairs where I hope you can feel relaxed and talk in confidence.

During counselling sessions clients receive individual attention, in confidence, to focus on any problems or issues they might have; thoughts and feelings can be shared if they choose. All people are treated with the utmost respect and heard in a non-judgemental and empathic way. Although counselling may be helpful to consider options, people’s decisions remain their own. It is hoped that through a number of sessions counselling will be a healing process.
